Position Overview

The Trail Crew works as part of the Summer Operations team.  They are responsible for general outdoor maintenance, including (but not limited to) sign/fence repairs, cleaning, painting, as well as the summer wastewater treatment program.  They are also responsible for general construction, landscaping and reclamation as required. The Trail Crew are responsible for using various types of heavy machinery and tools safely.

The incumbent should expect to be working outside in any, all and sometimes adverse mountain weather conditions.

This is a full-time summer seasonal role (mid May to mid October), 4/7 days a week, 10-hr days, 7:00am – 5:30pm. 

Alberta Employment Standards regarding a ninety-day probationary period applies.

Job duties/ Responsibilities:

  •  General outdoor maintenance & construction, landscaping, fence/sign repair, painting, cleaning, etc
  • Runoff control/ditching/erosion management, roadway maintenance
  • Operate company highway vehicles, heavy equipment (bobcat, Posi-track, loader/backhoe, excavator, Zoom Boom) & various tools safely and as trained
  • Wastewater treatment & lagoon cleanout
  • Town Run, garbage/dump runs, recycling
  • Logging (special projects) – felling, bucking, limbing (based on the individual’s certification level)
  • Reclamation (special projects) – sod/topsoil salvage, replacement, seeding/fertilize
  • Assist contractors’ work on the mountain as required
  • Identify and address safety concerns, work safely and efficiently
  • Generally assist other departments as required
  • Adherence to the company’s practices and procedures as set in the ‘Trail Crew Training Manual’
  • Understanding of/adherence to the Best Management Practices for Development at Ski Areas in Banff and Jasper National Parks of Canada
  • All Marmot Basin employees will conduct themselves in compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation as it relates to their job

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Class 5 Alberta driver’s license with 3 years experience
  • Must produce clean Alberta driving abstract
  • Must possess an enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs and at times repetitively
  • Must enjoy working outdoors with a team and by themselves
  • Ability to be a great environmental steward to Jasper National Park
  • Physically Fit

Qualifications:

  •  Ski Industry experience, experience operating chainsaws & heavy machinery
  • Physically fit
  • Mechanical, general construction, reclamation and general labour background (an asset)
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised when required
  • Experience operating off-road (ATVs) and 4-wheel drive vehicles
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate (16hr)
