The Planner I reports to the Manager of Integrated Land Use Policy and Planning in Jasper National Park. This position is responsible for conducting policy reviews and providing recommendations to senior decision-makers, supporting Indigenous and public consultation for Parks Canada and third-party projects, and representing Parks Canada as a regulatory authority in the review of third-party development proposals.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization in land use planning, geography, biology/ecology, environmental design/science or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a related field.

EXPERIENCE:EX1: Experience in leading planning, policy, or land use projects.
EX2: Experience in providing policy and planning advice to senior management on issues related to protected areas, conservation, land use or development.
EX3: Experience in conducting and reviewing Indigenous and public consultation on major projects.
EX4: Experience collecting, analyzing and integrating environmental, cultural, social and economic data and information to inform planning and policy projects.

KNOWLEDGE:
K1: Knowledge of Parks Canada’s mandate, legislation and policies related to land-use and development in Canada’s national park system.
K2: Knowledge of best practices for Indigenous and public consultations.
