Job Overview

This position will start immediately and is a one-year term, ending on November 30th, 2026.

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Child Care Services Manager provides leadership and oversight for Wildflowers Child Care and Out of School Care / Summer Fun, a diverse portfolio of childcare programs serving residents ages 1-12. This role ensures accountability for provincial, municipal, and community agreements, legislation and regulations, aligning service delivery with municipal priorities and community needs. The Manager leads the early learning and care team, oversees program planning and evaluation, administers complex funding and registration programs, and ensures operational continuity at the center. Strong leadership, financial acumen, and the ability to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment are essential for sustaining and advancing services that contribute to community well-being.

Work performed:  

Policies and Programs 

• Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of childcare programs.

• Perform direct childcare services.

• Integrate principles of equity, accessibility, and cultural safety.

• Ensure compliance with municipal policies and legislative requirements.

• Provide leadership for childcare business continuity during community emergencies and recovery efforts.

 Supervision 

• Provide direct day-to-day supervision, performance management, and coaching for staff.

• Lead onboarding, probationary and annual evaluations, performance management, and scheduling.

• Support staff development and training.

 Community and partnerships 

• Collaborate with other departments, community agencies, provincial/federal partners, and regional networks.

• Design initiatives and partnerships that respond to local needs.

• Represent childcare at municipal committees, cross-departmental working groups, and community events.

Financial Management 

• Manage funding agreements and budgets across federal, provincial, municipal, and community sources.

• Identify and apply for grants and other funding opportunities.

• Prepare budgets, forecasts, and submissions for Wildflowers and Out of School Care/Summer Fun programs.

• Authorize program and administrative expenditures in line with approved budgets and municipal policies.

Municipal leadership 

• Align childcare strategic plans with municipal priorities.

• Prepare and present reports, updates, and recommendations for senior leadership and Council.

• Contribute to corporate initiatives, accreditation processes, and organizational planning.

Job Requirements

Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following qualifications: 

Required 

• Post-secondary education in Early Learning and Care, Education, or Equivalent.

• Alberta Child Development Supervisor Certification or Equivalent.

• Demonstrate progressive leadership experience in childcare services within a multi-funded environment.

• Experience in report writing, budgeting, and financial management.

• Demonstrated experience with contract/program management, supervision, and reporting.

• 1 year supervisory/management experience in a municipal or government setting.

Preferred:

• Experience/Education in Public/Business Administration, Community Development, or a related field

• Familiarity with federal and provincial childcare programs and services.

• Training in leadership, equity, or cultural safety practices.

• Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of one year experience for one year of education.

• Candidates with lower qualifications are encouraged to apply and may be considered at a lower classification and pay..
