Job Overview

This role is responsible for performing a full range of recycling operations, including collection, baling, inventory management, loading trucks, overseeing recycling center activities, and conducting routine equipment maintenance. In addition, the position supports the solid waste team by providing collection coverage for compost and solid waste as needed. The role ensures reliable, seven-day-a-week operational coverage to maintain efficient recycling and waste management services.

    Work performed:  

The Recycling Operator is responsible for safe and efficient recycling and waste services.

Recycling

  • Effectively and safely operate the garbage trucks and hydraulic bins and equipment
  • Operate recycling processing, including baling, materials handling, and shipment scheduling
  • Operate and maintain equipment 
  • Perform regular service of recycle centers, plastics recycling trailer, and replace the bags full of jugs and cartons with empty bags and bring full bags to the compound for processing or storage
  • Perform regular cleaning of recycling areas, baler room, and outside storage areas
  • Clean snow off walkways and steps around waste bins and recycle centers

Solid Waste

  • Assist the Solid Waste Lead Hand 
  • Empty all bins throughout the town site
  • Remove branches, garden waste, furniture, and other items from waste bin areas and alleys 
  • Steam waste bins as directed by the lead hand
  • Repair routine items and report non-routine items to the Lead Hand as appropriate

Job Requirements

Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following qualifications: 

  • Grade 12 High School Diploma or GED 
  • Knowledge of Municipal recycling and solid waste practices is an asset
  • Equipment operating experience related to solid waste, composting, and recycling processes
  • Baler operation and maintenance
  • Garbage truck operation and maintenance
  • First Aid/CPR certificates
  • Preferred - Forklift certification
  • Minimum Class 5 driver's license with air brake endorsement
  • Obtain or commit to obtain a Class 3 driver's license with an air brake endorsement
  • Ability to lift weights to 35 KG
  • WHMIS certification
  • Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of one year experience for one year of education.
  • Candidates with lower qualifications are encouraged to apply and may be considered at a lower classification and pay.
