Job Overview

Reporting to the Community Development Manager, the Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator will coordinate Jasper’s Local Immigration Partnership (Jasper-LIP). The Jasper-LIP is one of 86 LIPs across Canada, operating in diverse contexts including large cities, smaller towns and rural ‘zones.’ LIPs’ are made up of agencies, organizations and individuals that work together to create the conditions in Jasper where newcomers can settle and integrate into their new community successfully. LIPs provide a forum for sustained, community-level collaboration. They forge connections between the settlement sector and non-traditional community partners.   

The Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator will also schedule, advertise and support the Newcomer Network, where newcomers themselves share their stories, get to know others, learn about the supports available and provide recommendations to the Jasper-LIP. 

Work performed:  

  • Recruit, engage and support participants of the Jasper Local Immigration Partnership in attending a minimum of 4 meetings per year 
  • Develop and support ad-hoc working groups as needed based on priorities that emerge 
  • Conduct research on newcomer needs as well as the community’s strengths and opportunities 
  • Update the local settlement strategy and action plan as needed to incorporate new priorities and activities completed 
  • Coordinate the upkeep of key tools that support successful settlement and integration including: The Community Guide, The Employer Toolkit to supporting newcomers and the Welcome to Jasper app. 
  • Coordinate annual events that foster a welcoming community for newcomers including: Welcoming Week, The Welcome Event, Culture Night. 
  • Coordinate one community engagement session each year to update the community on LIP activities and priorities for future 
  • Schedule, advertise and facilitate a minimum of 4 Newcomer Network gatherings per year 
  • Recruit, engage and support newcomers in attending gatherings and sharing perspectives 
  • Support the newcomer network executive in their roles leading the broader network 
  • Document the feedback you receive at Newcomer Network gatherings and relay to the Jasper Local Immigration Partnership 
  • Support Newcomer Network participants in coordinating activities and events they are passionate about

Qualifications & experience:  Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in public relations, public engagement, diversity and inclusion, immigration, community development, political science, local governance or a related field 
  • Experience working in a related field such as: public relations, immigration, communications, community development, non-profit sector, local government 
  • Lived experience as a newcomer to Canada is an asset 
  • Experience in a municipal government environment is an asset 
  • Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors is an asset 
  • Experience working in a confidential, trauma-informed work environment is an asset
