Reporting to the Licensing and Enforcement Manager, the Community Peace Officer (CPO) Level 1 promotes community safety, livability, and voluntary compliance through the fair and consistent enforcement and education of Municipal Bylaws and designated Provincial Statutes. The CPO provides information, education, and enforcement services to residents, visitors, and businesses, ensuring balanced and professional delivery of municipal compliance functions. The position includes responsibilities for traffic enforcement under provincial authorization and the administration of Animal Control services within the Municipality of Jasper.
Work performed:
Public Education and Community Engagement
- Promote voluntary compliance through public education, patrol presence, and direct community interaction.
- Participate in and deliver public education initiatives, including school and community presentations.
- Engage professionally with residents, visitors, and businesses.
- Collaborate with Parks Canada, the RCMP, and other enforcement and emergency partners.
Law, Bylaw, and Traffic Enforcement
- Enforce Municipal Bylaws and designated Provincial Statutes of Alberta.
- Conduct moving and non-moving traffic enforcement.
- Administer Animal Control operations, including the capture, transport, impoundment, and care of domestic animals.
- Prepare investigative files, notes, reports, and disclosure packages for enforcement action or court proceedings.
Patrol, Monitoring, and Complaint Investigation
- Conduct foot, vehicle, and bicycle patrols.
- Respond to, assess, and investigate complaints; gather evidence and determine appropriate enforcement or compliance actions.
- Follow and promote Occupational Health and Safety practices.
