Job Overview
  • Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, filter coffee, and other specialty beverages to café standards
  • Dial in espresso shots, adjust grinder settings, and ensure consistent extraction quality
  • Steam and texture milk for lattes, flat whites, cappuccinos, and other beverages
  • Create latte art and maintain high-quality presentation standards
  • Recommend coffee origins, roasts, and brewing methods to customers
  • Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and inviting café workspace
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and café health regulations
  • Handle cash and POS transactions accurately
  • Provide friendly, professional, and efficient customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, including prep, cleaning, and stock rotation
  • Restock café supplies and assist with inventory management
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth service during busy periods

Job Requirements

Essential:

  • Previous barista experience in a café or specialty coffee environment
  • Strong knowledge of espresso-based drinks, brewing methods, and coffee origins
  • Ability to dial in espresso, steam milk, and create consistent latte art
  • Understanding of café workflow and customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with operating and cleaning commercial espresso machines and grinders
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and café health regulations
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Alberta Pro-Serve
  • Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility to work mornings, weekends, and public holidays

Nice to Have:

  • Certificate III in Hospitality (Barista Skills) or equivalent training
  • Experience with manual brew methods (pour-over, Aeropress, V60)
  • Passion for coffee education and recommending blends to customers
  • Experience in stock management and inventory control
