About the position: The Grounds Operator plays a vital role in maintaining the Municipality of Jasper's parks, green spaces, and recycling facilities. This position involves skilled grounds maintenance tasks, operation of heavy equipment, and supporting the Grounds Lead Hand in managing assigned areas. The Grounds Operator ensures a safe, clean, and attractive environment while assisting other departments when needed.
Work performed:
Under the direction of the Grounds Lead Hand and the Operations Services Manager:
- Maintain all municipal grounds, parks, and sports fields through a variety of duties including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, fertilizing, seeding, watering, litter removal, and snow removal (seasonal).
- Assist in the development of new grounds areas as directed.
- Operate and maintain a variety of grounds maintenance equipment including tractors, mowers (riding and walk-behind), trimmers, blowers, aerators, and other relevant machinery.
- Perform preventative maintenance and report any malfunctions promptly.
- Operate heavy equipment as required (e.g., picker truck, backhoe, bobcat & attachments).
- Operate recycling equipment, including balers
- Handle materials and load trucks while processing various recyclable materials.
- Perform routine repairs and report non-routine items to the Lead Hand or Grounds Manager.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of grounds and irrigation systems as assigned.
- Support the Grounds Lead Hand in overseeing daily tasks, leveraging subject matter expertise in
- areas such as turf management, horticulture, irrigation, or arboriculture.
- Strictly adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including proper use of Personal
- Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Report any unsafe conditions or practices immediately.
