Job Overview

About the position:  

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure all Municipal grounds, lands, fields, shrub and flower beds, playgrounds and parks are kept in an attractive and safe condition for their intended use.   The successful candidate will supervise and lead by example, coach, mentor and ensure workers they supervise work in a safe, efficient and effective manner.  This person will maintain clear communication with the Operations Services Manager including awareness of their concerns in regards to employees, equipment, or any other departmental needs or problems; and will organize and ensure daily work schedules are carried out in a timely manner.   

The projected start date of this position is May 6, 2024; with an anticipated end date of October 4, 2024.

Work performed:  

Under the direction of the Operations Services Manager:

  • Maintains grounds related equipment as per the preventative maintenance program;
  • Repair routine items and report non-routine items in need of repair to the Operations Services Manager;
  • Regular Inspection of play space areas as per the preventive Maintenance Program for these areas;
  • Ensure all grounds are in a condition of excellence for their intended use;
  • Develop methods and procedures to maintain and increase overall effectiveness of the grounds maintenance operations;
  • Ensure adequate coverage during holidays;
  • Winter duties to include snow clearing, sanding, flagging, and application of ice melt as required;
  • Become familiar with, and carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance policies and procedures approved by the Municipality and Occupational Health & Safety regulations. Responsible to make sure safe work practices are followed and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is obtained and used;
  • Assist management with staff evaluations;
  •  Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & experience:  Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following qualifications:

  • Valid class 3 driver’s license;
  • Playground safety regulations course;
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificates;
  • Landscape Gardener or equivalent certificate or a combination of education and experience acceptable to employer
  • Preference may be given to those candidates who possess turf grass management experience and/or experience or education in the Horticulture field.
