Duties
Parks Canada is seeking motivated individuals who enjoy the challenges of a fast paced work environment. The dispatch coverage area includes Jasper as well as more than 40 other national parks and historic sites across the country. We are looking for individuals with the ability to work calmly and effectively under the pressures of competing work demands, to deal with emergencies and to work shifts including nights, holidays and weekends. Dispatching requires a high degree of precision and accuracy to record and relay information to and from a variety of sources. Given the nature and scope of this work, strong oral and written communication in English is essential for all positions and additionally strong oral and written communication in French is needed for bilingual positions. For emergency radio telephone communication, the ability to speak in a calm, clear, regular and understandable manner is imperative.

Known as the ‘first’ first responders, emergency dispatchers are the crucial communications link between our visitors and the professionals who keep people safe and protect the animals and environment for future generations. After intensive training, your job will be to gather critical information about emergencies, then relay it to the personnel you will dispatch to the scene. You will be expected to follow established procedures and protocols to get the right people, to the right place, at the right time. You will also play a key role in ensuring occupational health and safety for park wardens, mountain rescue specialists, wildlife officers, highway equipment operators, researchers, and other Parks Canada team members.
