Reporting to the Licensing & Enforcement Manager, the Community Peace Officer (CPO) Level 1 is responsible for enforcing the Municipality of Jasper’s Bylaws and Provincial Statutes in a consistent and effective manner. A Community Peace Officer investigates inquiries and public complaints, including those related to animal control. They provide information on Municipal Bylaws and Provincial Statute requirements to Jasper residents and visitors.
Work performed:
- Enforce the Bylaws of the Municipality of Jasper
- Enforce Provincial Statutes in accordance with the Community Peace Officer appointment.
- Aim for voluntary compliance of Bylaws and Provincial Statutes when possible.
- Issue violation tickets and traffic tags, serve summonses and subpoenas, and prepare related legal documents.
- Investigate Bylaw and Provincial offences to prepare for court proceedings.
- Respond to public complaints and inquiries about Bylaw infractions and tickets.
- Follow up on tickets to ensure collection and prepare for and attend court for violation tickets issued.
- Conduct foot, vehicle, and other patrols as required.
- Impound and ensure the safety of loose, dangerous or abandoned domestic animals in the Town of Jasper.
- Operate the domestic animal control compound. Knowledge of the provincial court system.
- Cooperate with the Parks Canada Warden Service on domestic-wildlife encounters within the Town.
- Maintain records of infractions and licenses as required.
- Acquire and maintain an understanding of the Municipality of Jasper's relationship with Jasper National Park and the Parks Canada.
- Work effectively with other Municipality of Jasper staff and departments.
