Job Overview

About the position:  

Together with the guidance and support from the Community Development Manager, the Community Dinner Coordinator leads the successful delivery of the Municipality of Jasper’s Community Dinner Program – a flagship program that showcases Jasper’s diversity and builds community through sharing a meal together.

The start date of this position is as soon as possible. This is a 6 month term role from November, 2024 to April, 2025.

Work performed:  

Plan and Prepare 

  • Seek external groups to co- host each community dinner – with an emphasis on engaging a diverse cross-section of the community. 
  • Draw up, file and carry out partner agreements that lay out the roles of each group together with the municipality of Jasper to plan, prepare and serve dinners. 
  • Recruit and coordinate Community Dinner Volunteers to set up, buss tables, control the flow of people and tear down the hall before and after each dinner. 
  • Act as the primary liaison to the Health Inspector for Community Dinners. 

Execute 

  • Attend all Community Dinners as the lead from the Municipality of Jasper. 
  • Together with the external group lead and team, participate in the preparation of community dinners. If the group does not have a designated Chef, act as the culinary lead in the preparation of Community Dinners for that group. 
  • Inventory, monitor and replenish supplies used during Community Dinners. 
  • Inventory, monitor, purchase and coordinate the use of food to prepare and serve Community Dinners. 
  • Support and lead the group of Community Dinner volunteers who set up, buss tables, tear down, prepare and serve the dinner. 
  • Monitor use of ingredients and ensure that any leftovers are utilized at the Soup for You Program through Glendas or the Jasper Food Recovery Program. 
  • Monitor, tally and submit donations.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & experience:  Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Food Handler Certification Course and any additional food safety courses that meet section 31 of the Food Regulation in Alberta. 
  • Education: Degree, diploma or Certificate in culinary services or program coordination or an equivalent combination of education and experience satisfactory to the Community Development Manager; 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; 
  • Report writing skills; 
  • Conflict resolution skills; 
  • Ability to work within a team framework; 
  • Problem Solving; 
  • Confidential; 
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office applications.
