Job Overview

Together with the guidance and support from the Community Development Manager, the Community & Recreation Programmer leads the successful delivery of programs and events for all ages in Jasper by understanding the needs and wants of the community and developing and implementing programs to support the intended outcomes of community connectedness and encouraging active socialization These programs aim to maximize the use and enjoyment of municipal facilities, parks and greenspaces.

The start date of this position is as soon as possible with an end date of November 30, 2026.

Work performed:  

  • Engage with the community to seek input and feedback on programs, events or initiatives that reach diverse residents of all ages. 
  • Develop a community and recreation program that outlines planned events and initiatives to promote connection through recreation within a programming budget.
  • Lead program delivery by booking facilities, organizing supplies and equipment, promoting programs, and organizing registration for programs and events.  
  • Develop partnerships in the community to support programming and recruit and support partners to help lead programs.
  • Complete risk assessments for program locations and take steps to reduce, eliminate or transfer risks for all programs, events or initiatives.
  • Attend programs or events to monitor implementation, track attendance and receive feedback as the lead from the Municipality.
  • Inventory, monitor and replenish supplies used during programming.
  • Administer participant surveys and track program attendance.  
  • Measure the results of each program or event by developing program surveys and key performance indicators 
  • Complete and submit program/event reports to the Community Development Manager that include program expenses, results from program surveys and key performance indicators. 
  • Design or refine approaches to programming to improve programs and ensure they are meeting the changing needs of Jasperites.

Job Requirements

Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Degree, diploma or certificate in recreation services or program coordination or an equivalent combination of education and experience satisfactory to the Community Development Manager; 
  • Experience developing, leading and implementing recreation programming in a public facing role;  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; 
  • Report writing skills; 
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills; 
  • Ability to work in a team environment; 
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office applications.
